If you've decided to install an alarm to protect your home, then you have to choose between a wired or wireless system. Wired alarms are hard-wired to your electrics; wireless models connect together via secure radio signals.

While both options are effective, wireless systems have some useful benefits. What are they?

1. Easy Installation

Wired alarm systems use physical wires to connect all their parts. These alarms have to be hard-wired to a power source. You then have to run wires through each part of the system to connect everything together.

You need time to set up this kind of system. You might also need to do some building modification work to get wires in the right places. For example, you might need to drill holes in walls and run cables under floors when you put the system together.

Wireless alarms are faster and easier to set up. All you have to do is to put the core components of the system, such as its control panel and sensors, in the right places. Once you have everything in the right range, you can turn on the system and it's good to go. It doesn't need any connecting wires.

2. Reduced Damage Risks

An experienced burglar might be able to disable a wired alarm system without detection. They can cut through an accessible external wire to break the overall circuit. They might even be able to cut your power. Even if the alarm then sounds because it detects the break, you'll have to fix the problem to get the system up and running again.

Wireless alarms don't have any wires, so they don't have these potential weak spots. Burglars will find it a lot more difficult to disable or bypass these systems.

3. Cost-Effective Portability

If your home alarm is hard-wired, then you might not want to take it with you if you move. You'll have to have the system uninstalled and then reinstalled in your new home. Your current setup might not work as well in a new property with a different layout. Plus, you'll also have to pay disconnection and reconnection costs, which might not make it worthwhile to move the alarm.

Wireless alarms are portable. You simply switch the system off, collect it all together and take it with you. You then set it up in your new home. Even if you have it professionally reinstalled, your costs should be lower.
